Recent crime wave in our neighborhood

Many of our neighbors in Altadena have been targeted in a recent crime wave. In addition to burglaries there have been reports of stolen mail packages. If you see any suspicious activity please write down as much descriptive information as possible and call the police.

Most of this activity has been crimes of convenience - an unlocked window or door or an alarm not set. These people are looking for an easy way to get in.

Please help us get the word out!!! Talk to your neighbors about what has been going on in the area. When you are walking, be observant of any suspicious activity, carry your cell phone and a paper and pen, to get a description if you do see something. Be on the lookout for people circling on bikes, often looking in cars or in back-yards through alleys.

Please email info@AltadenaSD.org if you want to be part of an upcoming neighborhood watch program. We've had faltering community support for this initiative and need your help!

Below is more information on the situation and what you can do.

Subject: Crime info

I'm contacting you with this info and hope you will share it with all of your community members. We have had an increase in the amount of residential burglaries in the area of North Park generally between Landis and Juniper, and from 28th to Boundary/805. At this time they do have one suspect in custody and he is being cooperative and giving detectives info, hopefully to lead to other arrests.

The members of this burglary group are described as black juveniles, high school ages, male and female. One member cases out the homes and then sends the others to do the burglary and take specific items that he has preselected. Two vehicles have been seen in the area. One is an older white Cadillac with a black top. The other is a black Chrysler 300.

Please do not confront any suspicious persons or put yourself in any danger. Call the police when you see any suspicious persons or activity. Call 911 if it is a crime in progress or 619-531-2000 for suspicious activity.

Close and lock all doors and windows when you leave your home. Be aware but not vigilante.

Thanks for your help, if you have any questions, please call me at 619-531-1540.
